Cllr Breen is a former Clontarf FC player. In July 2025 he facilitated an agreement for the club to use the EastPoint all-weather pitch in the evenings and at weekends. The club chair put the numbers at 50 teams, about 800 players, and more than 200 girls.
He has also campaigned for toilets and changing at the Woodside pitches in St Anne's Park, calling the gap a barrier to girls playing. Eco-toilets went in during October 2025 and were burned within six days. They were repaired by December 2025. He called toilets the bare minimum. Changing rooms are still outstanding.
